As we move into the week where everyone in the world is focused on love, let’s take a walk into our heart’s truest desire. One of the most effective ways to live with joy is to learn to listen to your heart’s desire and map a plan of action for your life from that most pure part of you. Families have been totally destroyed because parents knew no other way. My heart broke for these families. My heart broke for those children who suffered because their parents didn’t have the tools to work through conflict and emotions productively.
My heart’s desire is to see great healing in individuals and families. How can that be, you may ask? You are a divorce attorney. Don’t you make a living breaking up families? My heart’s desire is to see the world change the way we speak about divorce and the separation process. When I struggled with the separation from my Husband, it broke my heart to think that our children would be from a “broken home”. Look at the message we our sending our children. To say they are from a “broken home” is to say they are somehow deficient or defective. It is to presume that a family with married parents is healthier than one with divorced parents. The fact is that the marital status of the parents has little to do with the health of the family. There are many very dysfunctional homes, broken homes if you will, with married parents. My heart’s desire is to be an agent of healing. It is to share my experiences to help people choose better. It is to help people understand that parents and children are a family forever. If divorce is the best option, we continue to choose our actions from a place of love and we evolve. It is not mom vs dad, my needs vs. your needs. It is to give and receive grace. My heart’s desire is to see every child live in love.
