My separation from my husband turned out to be something much more. Brene Brown talks about having a breakdown spiritual awakening . My separation and eventual divorce falls into this category. Our marriages are the foundation of our lives, when it is broken, we are broken. Before my separation, I was a Christian but did not have a relationship with God. He used that breakdown to change my life, to chip away at everything I had done over a lifetime that was outside of His will for me.

When I embraced this truth – when I no longer hid from who I was and what I had been through – when I was no longer ashamed but began to live into my experiences, my business took on a whole different complexion. I am living into my purpose and that reflects into every aspect of my life. I am a better mother, friend and entrepreneur. My business is flourishing – not because I am crunching numbers or becoming obsessive about billable hours but because it is infused with Joy.

So I leave you with this — the best marketing advice I ever received. “If you are your brand, you will never have competition”. I encourage you, no matter what your profession, to live into your purpose in doing that work. Our purpose as entrepreneurs in this new millennium is not to be motivated by money. The 80’s and 90’s carried an idolatry of the almighty dollar that was unhealthy and unproductive. Our true purpose is to share ourselves in our business, even if at first, you don’t see how that is going to make you more money. “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” – Dr. Seuss. When your business is the real, authentic you, you will never have competition.
